Patriotism
does it still matter, or even exist anymore? The meaning of patriotism is one’s love, defense, and support for his/her country. You can define it however you desire, but that is patriotism. People ask if it still matters, my only answer would be, “Of course!” For anyone who doesn’t back up our great country, that person is turning their back to the millions of people that do believe in the United States of America. People forget that no matter what, you should be part of this nation; they are forgetting the difference between disapproving in a governmental choice and revolting in madness against their choices. People are taking the extreme for blaming normal people for outrageous events that are happening. Take the war, for an example, people are pointing fingers at everyone. Can’t we just get along? Our country should follow the example nature has left us. Take the ocean, for example, in fact, that’s the perfect example. The sharks can live with the fish; they are enemies but they live together. Seals, whales, minnows, and even the algae all live together without picking each other off until the whole balance of life is blown out of proportion. This is because they are loyal enough to know the balance- to respect and defend it. Then we come and pollute it, just like us in the Iran/ Afghanistan war; we’re just making it worse. Wiping them out won’t solve anything; we need to respect other cultures. This paragraph is an example of patriotism. I have the right to express my opinion about the USA’s involvement in a foreign war, even if it is different than 80% of other Americans, but I still will be supportive to the soldiers and my government. We all should try to prevent the outrage we’re spreading. What are we teaching the generations that will one day take our place? We need to show by example. We need to start being loyal, and respectful to one another. Our world shouldn’t end in total, utter chaos. The world should continue, thriving, with all of us being patriotic.
